Let it Glow – A Celebration of Light
The magic of winter starts in Port Dalhousie and Downtown St. Catharines! This is a great kick-off to the holidays and is a family-friendly, outdoor festival that has thousands of lights, interactive light displays, entertainment, cultural programming, and lots more.
With the holiday season in full swing, you’ll find lots of exciting and free experiences for the whole family. It’s the perfect opportunity to get outside and explore while also taking in beautiful sights.
Find various light installations around Port Dalhousie in Rennie Park and St. Catharines by the Meridian Centre, James St. Alley, City Hall, and around downtown.
The celebration begins Friday, December 1 from 5-8 PM in Port Dalhousie with a Celebration of Light with Santa Claus, special guests, carousel rides, and entertainment.
There are lots of events happening during Let it Glow including the annual Mitten Tree Campaign at the St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canal Centre where you can help local families in need by dropping off winter clothing donations.
On December 6, 13 and 20, from 4-8 PM you can visit Market Square for a special winter edition of their usual market with lots of homemade and locally crafted items.
Finally, throw on your skates and join others on Sunday, December 10 at the Meridian Centre for a free holiday skate starting at noon where Santa will be present to take photos, enjoy hot chocolate and celebrate the holiday season.
Winter Festival of Lights
The annual Winter Festival of Lights runs until January 7 and features millions of lights, incredible displays, a hot chocolate trail, and special fireworks displays to light up the night.
This year’s festival includes wondrous illuminated displays that pay tribute to Canada’s natural beauty. Don’t miss the 40ft light tunnel, a perfect spot for a holiday photo, and be sure to spend some time walking through the various tourist districts to find all of this year’s displays. Warm up on the hot chocolate trail after you’ve finished exploring!
