September 2019: Views From Above Fall is fast approaching and soon the air will become crisper and mother nature will work her magic on the scenic region we call home. As the colours of the leaves change and the sun sets earlier, we feature two of our favorite attractions that will let you experience the changing seasons from above during the month of September.  Niagara Helicopters (Photo Above by Niagara Helicopters)   Open year-round, Niagara Helicopters is one of the most unique, thrilling and memorable attractions in Niagara to add to your bucket lists.    Offering Classic Tours, Winery Tours, charter flights, and even weddings, the spectacular views from the sky are sure to make for some great pictures and memories. Whether you've lived in Niagara your whole life or visiting for the first time, we promise that you've never seen it like this before.   With over 70 wineries along the Niagara Wine Route, guests can opt-in for the Winery Tours that fly over the Falls and land in the vineyards to enjoy some delicious food and famous Niagara wines.

View the Falls from above, take in the beautiful greenery and historic sites and learn more about the Region through the taped commentary provided to each guest via headphones during your tour.  Skylon Tower (Pictured Above – Photo by Skylon Tower)   One of Niagara's most famous and sought after attractions! The Skylon Tower soars 775 feet above the Falls and offers a variety of options for tourists and locals alike.    Ride to the top of the tower and take a walk on the Observation Decks (if you dare) to see the breathtaking view. In only 52 seconds, you can ride to the top in the Yellow Bug Elevators to see the Falls, the Great Gorge, the beautiful Niagara wine district and the skylines of Toronto spanning to New York.    For those visiting with younger kids or families, the 3D/4D Legends of Niagara Falls Movie is sure to be a hit.

You can travel back in time to when the Falls were formed and experience the native Indian legend of the Maid of the Mist and the "magic rainbow" in a spectacular and entertaining way.    Of course, the Skylon Tower also boasts two great dining options to choose from; the Revolving Dining Room Restaurant is world-famous and has won awards for their cuisine and the Summit Suite Buffet is a great, affordable and family-friendly option.   Our tip? Make reservations for the Revolving Dining Room on Labor Day to get a perfect and romantic view of the Falls Fireworks (happening at 10 pm).  Wine Takes Over September marks the month of a local tradition for Niagara residents – the Niagara Wine Festival! This is the largest wine festival in the country and from September 14-29, the Annual Grape & Wine Festival takes over Montebello Park to bring together wine-lovers in celebration of all things wine.  While the park experience is well-loved, the family-friendly Pied Piper Parade and Annual Meridian Grande Parade truly bring together the community as hundreds of musicians, dancers, entertainers, and floats fill the streets of downtown St. Catharines.  Don't forget to purchase your Discovery Passes so that you can venture all across Niagara to the variety of wineries who participate.

Each pass gives you access to 8 wine and culinary experiences (specifically designed by winemakers and chefs) of your choice among the 30 participating wineries.  For full details on this year's Wine Festival and to purchase tickets, visit  http://niagarawinefestival.com/.  Photo by Niagara Wine Festival Labour Day Weekend in Niagara Labour Day is almost here…what's going on this weekend?   Labour Day Parade (Merritton)   Celebrate the 73rd Merritton Lion's Parade on Monday, September 2nd from 11 am – 2 pm. The Parade route runs from the Pen Centre to Community Park and will bring together the St. Catharines and Merritton communities in celebration.    Don't forget to check out the Merritton Lion's Community Days Festival happening all weekend with midway games, food, vendors and more!   Niagara Falls Summer Fireworks Series   Returning for the 26th year, grab your blankets and head down to Queen Victoria Park in Niagara Falls to view a beautiful display of fireworks starting promptly at 10 pm.    Niagara Greek Festival   Enjoy the last day of the Niagara Greek Festival from noon until 8 pm.

Niagara Region: Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to visit for fewer crowds?

Weekday mornings outside peak summer and holiday weekends are typically quieter. Shoulder seasons (late spring and early fall) balance weather and crowd levels.

Do I need a passport to cross the border for viewpoints?

Crossing between Canada and the United States requires valid travel documents. Many experiences stay on one side—check your itinerary before you go.

Are the trails and gorge viewpoints family-friendly?

Many paths are accessible with proper footwear, but some gorge routes include stairs and uneven stone. Review trail notes and posted advisories before heading out.
