December 2023 Let it Glow – A Celebration of Light: The magic of winter starts in Port Dalhousie and Downtown St. Catharines! This is a great kick-off to the holidays and is a family-friendly, outdoor festival that has thousands of lights, interactive light displays, entertainment, cultural programming, and lots more.

With the holiday season in full swing, you'll find lots of exciting and free experiences for the whole family. It's the perfect opportunity to get outside and explore while also taking in beautiful sights. Find various light installations around Port Dalhousie in Rennie Park and St.

Catharines by the Meridian Centre, James St. Alley, City Hall, and around downtown. The celebration begins Friday, December 1 from 5-8 PM in Port Dalhousie with a Celebration of Light with Santa Claus, special guests, carousel rides, and entertainment.

There are lots of events happening during Let it Glow including the annual Mitten Tree Campaign at the St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canal Centre where you can help local families in need by dropping off winter clothing donations. On December 6, 13 and 20, from 4-8 PM you can visit Market Square for a special winter edition of their usual market with lots of homemade and locally crafted items.

Finally, throw on your skates and join others on Sunday, December 10 at the Meridian Centre for a free holiday skate starting at noon where Santa will be present to take photos, enjoy hot chocolate and celebrate the holiday season. Niagara Region: Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to visit for fewer crowds?

Weekday mornings outside peak summer and holiday weekends are typically quieter. Shoulder seasons (late spring and early fall) balance weather and crowd levels.

Do I need a passport to cross the border for viewpoints?

Crossing between Canada and the United States requires valid travel documents. Many experiences stay on one side—check your itinerary before you go.

Are the trails and gorge viewpoints family-friendly?

Many paths are accessible with proper footwear, but some gorge routes include stairs and uneven stone. Review trail notes and posted advisories before heading out.
