August 2020: Enjoy the Long Weekend What's Open this Weekend: It looks like a beautiful weekend ahead just in time for the Civic Holiday. We've rounded up some ideas for the whole family to get outside and enjoy. Remember to stay safe, bring a face covering, and wash those hands!
Restaurants/Wineries: Wineries across Niagara are open to the public and offer wine tastings, drinks on the patio, and other immersive wine experiences. Some wineries are by reservation only and appointments are limited. Be sure to check out the individual websites for each winery before heading out.
Our recommendation: Check out the Revolving Dining Room and Observation Deck at Skylon Tower for the best views of the Falls! Beaches (Open to Locals) St. Catharines: Port Dalhousie, Sunset Beach Port Colborne: Nickel Beach Lincoln: Charles Daley Park Beaches are open on August 3 to Niagara locals only. Both capacity and parking spots are limited to help enforce social distancing. Pools/Splash Pads: All outdoor splash pads are open on Monday with free admission throughout Niagara. Port Dalhousie and Lincoln Park pools also remain open.
Niagara Parks: Almost all of the Niagara Parks destinations and attractions have been reopened to the public. With new health and safety measures including training protocols, modifications to sites, and physical distancing requirements in place, families may enjoy any of the following activities: Falls Incline Railway WildPlay Zipline to the Falls Whirlpool Aero Car Butterfly Conservatory White Water Walk Journey behind the Falls Niagara's Fury Floral Showhouse Tickets can be purchased here: https://www.niagaraparks.com Stage 3 Re-opening: Niagara Region Nearly all businesses and public spaces in Niagara will gradually reopen during Stage 3 with public health and workplace safety restrictions and guidance in place. Gathering Limits: Photo by Carlos Osario The indoor gathering limits have increased to a maximum of *50 people. Outdoor limits have increased to a maximum of 100 people.
Ph ysical distancing of at least 2 metres is recommended with people from outside of your household or social circles. *People at their place of work (ie: employees or performers) do not count towards the gathering limits. Face Coverings: Face coverings are now required in commercial establishments and public spaces where physical distancing is a challenge and this includes spaces like retail and grocery stores. Hand sanitizer, frequent and increased cleaning protocols, specific employee health and safety training, and the practice of good hygiene in public (ie: covering a sneeze), have all been recommended by the government and health officials. COVID-Alert: Ontario has just revealed a new app called "COVID Alert" that will notify you if you have been in contact with anyone with COVID-19. Currently, it is only available within Ontario and can be downloaded to your smartphone.
How does it work? Bluetooth technology exchanges signals with nearby phones If an individual has tested positive for COVID, their public health authority will issue them a one-time key to enter into the app If you have been in contact or within 2 metres of an infected person for over 15 minutes within the previous 14 days, your phone will alert you (as long as both phones have the app) If you have been exposed, you will receive instructions through the app on what you should do next At this time, the app is only available on smartphones in Ontario. "COVID Alert" is a non-mandatory notification app and not a contact-tracing app. Officials have maintained that the app becomes more effective as more people download it. —Although the threat of COVID-19 has not disappeared, Niagara is allowed to resume normal activities (if individuals feel it is safe to do so) and support their local restaurants, attractions, and merchants.
Remember to maintain physical distancing, wash your hands frequently or use hand sanitizer, wear a face covering when physical distancing is a challenge, and stay home if you are not feeling well or experiencing any of the symptoms related to COVID-19.
