Destination Niagara Falls News - July 2020 Featured

Here's our July edition of our Destination Niagara Falls Newsletter.

Happy Canada Day!

Celebrate Canada's 153rd Birthday:
This year's festivities will be unlike any we've experienced before! The virtual celebration includes guest host Matt Anthony, musicians including Deadmau5, a magician, community leaders, and more! On Wednesday from 9am - 6pm, the celebration will stream on the Niagara Falls website, Facebook, or on YourTV (Ch. 10 & 700) for everyone to enjoy!

The Government of Canada has put together a virtual celebration that will span from coast to coast. At 10 pm, local time, you can experience the augmented reality created for mobile devices by pointing your smart phone or tablet to the sky. A 3-minute show with 3D fireworks will play before your eyes. Don't forget to turn up the volume!

Phase 2 Re-Opening: Niagara Region

As a part of Ontario's Stage 2 reopening strategy, Niagara Falls lifted restrictions on businesses and attractions allowing them to commence operations on June 19th. While many locals and tourists alike visited the Falls to enjoy the attractions, many were still closed down. Fortunately, most of the Niagara Falls attractions will reopen today with heightened measures in place to ensure guests are practicing social distancing, sanitizing, and maintaining proper safety protocols.
Food & Beverage
Restaurants, bars, and patios are open and providing many different options for patrons including outdoor dine-in services, curbside pickup, and delivery. With the sunny days and hot weather already here, many have flocked to sit on patios and meet up with those they haven't seen in months. The City of St. Catharines has announced that it will close a portion of St. Paul Street downtown for pedestrian traffic on Fridays (3pm-11pm), Saturdays (10am-11pm), and Sundays (10am-9pm) to allow for more outdoor seating at restaurants to help with physical distancing.
Tours & Tastings
Many wineries, breweries, and distilleries are providing limited tastings and tours to guests. Though we aren't seeing the large gatherings we have seen in previous summers, guests are promised a great experience with some enhanced health and safety measures in place.
Personal Care Services
Select services have opened including hair salons and barber shops, beauty salons, and tattoo parlours. Say "goodbye" to the "Covid-Cut" and make sure to book an appointment because spots are filling up quickly. In order to keep guests safe some salons have installed partitions, stylists are wearing face shields, and are taking temperatures as well as requiring a face mask and gloves for guests.
Outdoor & Recreational Activities
Public pools, outdoor splash pads, and wading pools have reopened to help cool you down this summer with limits on the number of guests, special cleaning procedures, and physical distancing in place.
Although the threat of COVID-19 has not disappeared, Niagara has been encouraged to resume some normal activities (if individuals feel it is safe to do so) and support their local restaurants, attractions, and merchants. Remember to maintain physical distancing, wash your hands frequently or use hand sanitizer, wear a face covering when physical distancing is a challenge, and stay home if you are not feeling well or experiencing any of the symptoms related to COVID-19.  For more information on the latest Covid-19 updates and resources, visit
Pride in Niagara
June was the celebration of Pride Month and many Niagara businesses, organizations, and schools joined in on the festivities to show their support. With Rainbow Flags raised across the region, Niagara also celebrated another great milestone with the rainbow cross walk officially being revealed in downtown Niagara Falls. The City of Niagara Falls virtually unveiled the crosswalk and announced it "honours and celebrates diversity and inclusion and shows the city's support of the LGBTQ+ community".
