Destination Niagara Falls News - September 2017

Photo: The Skylon Tower
The view of Niagara Falls from atop the Skylon Tower is stunningly beautiful no matter the season. Whether you visit in the spring or summer, with the sun shining brightly over green tree tops while the streets below teem with tourists, in the fall when the foliage in Queen Victoria Park transforms into a colourful array of oranges, yellows, and reds, or in the winter when streams of visitors visit to marvel at Dufferin Islands and surrounding properties twinkling with Christmas displays during the Winter Festival of Lights and the falls cast in a multi-coloured glow, you’re in for a visual treat. “If you can imagine dining 775 feet above the Niagara gorge, with the winter wonderland as a backdrop, and if you’re in the revolving dining room you do get the 360-degree panoramic view. It really is a winter wonderland, especially with fresh snow,” said Anita Pang-Hrepic, the Skylon’s Director of Sales, adding that while the Summit Suite does not revolve, it overlooks a stunning vista of twinkling lights in a wide array of colours, dotting the streets below the tower. Destination Niagara Falls and Niagara Buzz recently collaborated to produce a video featuring the Skylon. As the most recognizable landmark in Niagara Falls next to the falls itself and the only establishment in the city with a rotating restaurant, the tower is a perennial favourite for tourists and party goers alike, and the last few months of 2017 promise to be thrilling. “We’re looking forward to seeing what fall and winter bring,” said Pang-Hrepic. “We’re always excited to have interest come to Niagara Falls with the Winter Festival of Lights.” The Skylon is offering two three-course holiday dinner packages geared to small to mid-sized businesses and associations such as real estate offices, bank branches and more. As many businesses this size are opting to host smaller parties on a week night rather than large affairs on a Friday or Saturday to save on time and expense of renting an entire banquet room or private space, while still making the gesture to appreciate their employees and members, the demographic is a growing market, said Pang-Hrepic. Choose from the Mistletoe package, which is available for an early dinner with seatings at either 4:30 or 5 p.m., or the Silver Bells package, a slightly upgraded option available at 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Guests can choose from Chef's Market Salad or Caesar Salad to start and either Baked Praline Cheesecake or Creme Brulee to compliment. New this year to both packages is the addition of Ontario Turkey Tenderloin with Seasonal Dressing.
With seating for more than 260 people, the Revolving Dining Room is open year-round and offers 360-degree panoramic views of Niagara Falls, Niagara wine country, and on a clear day the skylines of Toronto and Buffalo. It features award winning continental cuisine including Canadian Smoked Almon, Prime Rib and Rack of Lamb. You’ll also have your choice of a collection of Niagara wines. The family friendly Summit Suite Buffet provides a comfortable and casual setting, with a dual-sided buffet offering a wide variety of dishes and featuring homemade desserts daily. Open to the public from mid-May to mid-October, the buffet has seating for more than 200 people. The buffet is available for private events, receptions and banquets from mid-October to mid-May. The Skylon requires a minimum of 75 people to reserve a private room. The three iconic “Yellow Bug” elevators take visitors on a 52-second Ride to the Top, where you’ll have the highest unobstructed vantage point and the best view of the Falls Illumination and seasonal fireworks displays from the indoor or outdoor observation decks. Admission to the decks is free when dining and they’re open year-round from 8 am to midnight in season. The holiday dinner packages are available from November 18, 2017 until January 7, 2018. You can book now by contacting Group Sales at 905-356-2651 ext. 226 or 227 or via email at to reserve.
